Children, Inc. began twenty-seven years ago with the simple dream of
making a difference for low-income children and their families.
Beginning with one center serving 70 children in Covington, the goal was
to provide the kind of early education and care that would enable
low-income families to work and children to be ready for school. As
CI’s reputation for providing high quality care grew, they partnered
with companies like the IRS and Toyota to provide high quality education
and care on-site for their employees. CI partnered with schools to
provide small-targeted programs on-site for teen moms so that the new
moms would both learn how to care for their children and complete their
high school education. They opened Montessori schools and made them
affordable for everyone.
While CI began as an organization that provided early education in child
care centers, they realized that working families with young children
had other needs. Therefore, they developed a network of over 80
certified family child care homes to give 500 working parents more
choices about their child care arrangements. For families with young
school age children, CI developed a model network of after school
programs in over 45 elementary schools in Northern Kentucky so that
working parents need not worry if their children were safe after
school. CI continued their expansion to include before school services,
all day summer camps, and holiday care so that families could work.
Each day CI now enables 1300 families to work worry-free.
Throughout the growth of their services, CI continues to raise the level
of quality of those services. Today Children, Inc. is the largest
provider of nationally accredited early childhood services in the
Greater Cincinnati region. Children, Inc. provides more three
STAR-rated services, Kentucky’s measure of high quality, than any other
organization in the state. CI is a leader in integrating the arts and
every aspect of the day-to-day curriculum. CI uses a research-based,
strength-based approach to build the social and emotional skills
necessary for school success. They align their curriculum with
Kentucky’s learning standards so that when our children enter school
they have mastered the skills necessary to begin school ready to learn.
Each day Children, Inc. shares resources with over 100 different
partners. Through collaboration they are able to serve more children,
more cost effectively. These partnerships also lead to new
initiatives. Last year, with the help of 35 partners, CI launched
service learning, a method of helping children in school learn by doing
something to help others.
In its first year over 5,600 school children helped others as a part of
their curriculum. Children, Inc. along with its partners has
successfully begun supporting every family with children under the age
of five, providing home visitation and free all day preschool. This
fall, Children, Inc. and its partners will launch a regional Oral Health
Initiative that will bring oral health education and dental services to
almost 10,000 low-income children.
Due to the growth in our region, the demand for Children, Inc.’s
services continue to increase. This has created a need for new
additional facilities. Therefore, CI has embarked upon a capital
campaign, Imagine Tomorrow, to raise the funds necessary to
secure this facility. We are committed to ensuring the children of our
community get the very best start in life and we know you share our
commitment! Will you join us as we dream forward and Imagine
Tomorrow for the children of our community?
