A child is sitting at a table in his
preschool classroom working on a challenging pre-math task. He stops, sighs
deeply, and then begins singing to himself: "I can do it, I can do it, if I put
my heart and my mind to it." He returns to the task to see it to a successful
conclusion. This is the welcome outcome of a new product launch by the Devereux
Training Center at Children, Inc.
The Devereux Training Center at Children, Inc.
is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of a new product, “Songs of
Resilience.” This 4CD set and Teacher’s Strategy Manual includes 27 original
songs by renowned children’s song writer, David Kisor, that are designed to
promote children’s protective factors.
The CDs can be used as part of the Devereux
DECA program or as stand-alone strategies, with a parent's version scheduled for
release in Spring 2006.
There are songs of attachment, songs of
initiative and songs of self-control as well as a CD of inspirational songs for
the resilient caregiver. The strategy manual contains sheet music for each
song and provides suggestions on ways of incorporating songs within the lesson
plan and other tips for teachers.
The CDs will also have karaoke versions of
the songs so that when the children have learned the songs, the teacher can
record their own unique presentation.
We know that music is a powerful medium for
teaching social-emotional concepts and skills. These songs help children deal
with issues such as controlling anger, persistence on task, initiating play with
others, sense of belonging, etc. They are effective and fun means of building
resilience in young children.
