Advocacy DVD that was sent to Kentucky legislators.
Visit Parent Voice, a grassroots effort to connect the parents of young children and early childhood educators to Kentucky’s legislative decision makers.
Children, Inc. believes that each child deserves the best possible start. Therefore, we advocate for the following:
- That each child has access to both preventive and remedial physical, mental and dental care.
- That each child has good nutrition and develops good hygiene.
- That each child who uses out-of-home care is in an early childhood setting that is safe, well-equipped, and staffed by knowledgeable and nurturing adults.
Children, Inc. believes that families are the primary nurturers of their children. Therefore, we advocate for the following:
- That each family receives a wage that enables them to provide for their children.
- That each family has both timely and effective information through a variety of media that supports rearing their children.
- That each family that uses out-of-home care has access to high quality care that costs less than 10% of family gross income.
Children, Inc. believes that the Northern Kentucky community and the Greater Cincinnati region can provide effective support for all families with young children. Therefore, we undertake the following initiatives:
- We partner with school districts and local health organizations, foundations, other social service providers, and forward-thinking businesses to develop innovative services for families and children.
- We are the primary sponsor of a large annual conference that brings the latest research about the brain development and young children to professionals.
- We recruit, train, and place "brain train" teams that take the latest brain development information to various audiences at no cost.
- We support both the United Way and Community Chest of Greater Cincinnati and the Northern Kentucky Action Council in naming and developing highly effective strategies to support children and their families.
- We support Kentucky's Kids Now, which provides a comprehensive plan that enables each child to do well. In its first year this plan has provided for a system for child care centers, a modest increase in eligibility for families, early hearing test for all infants, and higher professional standards.
- We support all national initiatives that provide additional resources for families that use out of home care. In particular, we strongly support Senate Bill 1475 that encourages all states to reimburse early care and education at a higher rate. These new higher rates are necessary if children are going to have more stimulating and nurturing environments.
