Volunteer through nkyHELPS.org
Over the past year,
Children, Inc. has been partnering with NKU, the Kentucky
Enquirer, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, Scripps Howard
Center for Civic Engagement, Legacy, and Vision 2015 to
produce nkyHELPS.org.
nkyHELPS.org is a one stop shop for
volunteerism and donations in Northern Kentucky. We are
connecting those who want to volunteer their time, money,
and items with nonprofits that need them. It is our goal to
make Northern Kentucky the easiest place in the country to
volunteer and donate. If you are an individual who would
like to register or a Northern Kentucky nonprofit who would
like to feature opportunities on the site please visit
nkyHELPS.org.
"I can do it," sing the kids at
Children Inc. That can-do attitude is part of an initiative called
Songs of Resilience, developed with musician and songwriter
David Kisor. A guide and 27 songs used by the teachers at Children
Inc. centers and after-school programs enhance kids' self-control,
initiative and attachment. A parent version of the guide will be
released in October. Tom Lottman and musician David Kisor of
Children Inc. talk about Songs of Resilience and then the
children sing the songs.

Resilience.
In
the last ten years, Children, Inc. has tripled in size. Our once
spacious central office of 4,400 square feet is overcrowded. Two
years ago, Children, Inc. had to lease another 3,500 square feet
off-site. Our recent initiatives like Service Learning, the
Devereux Area Training and Mentoring Center and our community
outreaches like Oral Health and the Newport Success By 6 will
continue to expand.
Children, Inc. last asked its friends for help ten years ago to fund
its existing office. From that central office we launched one of
the largest annual brain conferences in the country, seven new early
childhood centers, our Every Child Succeeds home visitation program,
Montessori national teacher certification and state and national
advocacy efforts, in addition to enlarging and enhancing our
existing services.
We need our friends to help us again. We need room to grow where we
can imagine tomorrow. There is work still to be done.
