| Volunteers are a
vital part of Children, Inc., Their contribution, however great or
small, enhances programs and brings additional resources to families and
children. There are many ways to be part of the volunteer team.
Children, Inc. is most appreciative of the kindness and spirit of the
many volunteers who perform valuable service.
Opportunities include:
- Serving on the Board of Directors.
Professionals and other individuals with a particular skill or
talent help guide the agency and provide leadership in policy-making
and corporate activity such as Strategic Planning.
- Internships and practicum
experiences are open to students attending universities or technical
colleges who are pursuing a degree or certificate in the fields of
child care, education, human services, social work, music, art, or
other areas. There are opportunities to interact with children and
develop skills related to their particular area of study and gain
valuable experience.
- On-site community service for high school
students is available. During the school
year students visit the classrooms or after school programs. They
interact with the children, read, help with classroom projects, or
simply talk with the children. A schedule for ongoing visits
throughout the school year are pre-arranged by school faculty and
Children, Inc. staff. Students can also participate in one time
community care projects such as playground cleanup days, sponsorship
of holiday parties, collection of materials from a wish list, or by
coordinating a gently used book drive at their school.
- Community and corporate volunteers
include individuals who want to volunteer in the classroom; help
with a special one time project such as a community care day; rock
and talk with babies; share an interest, talent, or hobby with the
children; sponsor a book drive for gently used books; or assist with
other program needs. Groups are welcome to sponsor holiday parties;
collect items from a wish list of needed supplies; or creatively
think of a way to support the programming needs of Children, Inc.
- Parents and family members
of children enrolled in programs who wish to help in any way that
accommodates their busy lives and schedules are invited to
volunteer. Examples of volunteer service include being a room parent
and helping a teacher with ongoing needs; participating in community
care days; sharing an interest, hobby, or talent with the children;
sponsoring a gently used book drive at their church or place of
employment; or simply visiting and interacting with the children.
